Steve Barbour
Immediately prior to the Ride of Silence this year I went to the RideofSilence.org. It is the national repository of names of those cyclists who have lost their lives while bicycling. I was surprised to find no mention of Steve. This morning I received this from the site administrator:
Dear Kenneth,
Thank you for submitting Steven’s information for the Ride of Silence memorial database. It’s been added here:
http://www.rideofsilence.org/memoriam.php#letter_B
I’m very saddened to learn of his passing. I trust that our organization will help in some small way to honor his life and raise awareness of bicyclist’s rights to travel safely on our roadways.
Please consider joining a Ride of Silence event in your area next year if there is one. You can check here to look for events in your state.
If there isn’t perhaps you might consider helping organize one in Steven’s memory. The Organizer Resources page is a good place to start. Contact Mark Hagar, our new event coordinator, if you have questions about organizing an event: Mark.Hagar@rideofsilence.org
Ride on,
Tim
Has anyone gotten in touch with Ride of Silence about Jeffrey Stevenson? I would like to know how to post his name.
I second the comment about Jeffrey Stevenson. He died with no witnesses other than the hit and run driver who left the scene. Tragic and cowardly, symptomatic of a system that devalues cyclists (and their lives) in the publicly funded transportation network.
2wheeler… sorry about the delay in approving your comment- got lost in the shuffle somehow. Anyway, you should now be good to go for the future without needing approval. Only the first requires it to prevent spam.
It is a real shame about both of these individuals- uniquely different people who both died senselessly and too early. Thanks for taking action on this Subverita. Sad that this has been overlooked.
The memorial ride on Saturday marks one year since Steve Barbour’s fatal crash. He was riding thru Hilliard to meet others for an organized ride, but sadly he never arrived. This ride is to honor him and celebrate the spirit of cycling that keeps us riding even after tragedy.
