OSU Bike Path Closures and Detours

From an email forwarded earlier today:

OSU is about to begin construction on what they call Phase 3 of the Olentangy Bike Path.  They will totally rework the path near the electrical substation south of John Herrick Bridge – building a retaining wall into the river, widening and re-grading the path.  OSU has also identified funds to conduct Phase 2 work which will move the bike path to the West side of Drake Union.  This package will be going out for bid this summer and they hope to begin construction this fall.

These will be big improvements to the trail, but will bring with them the inconvenience of on-street detours this summer and fall.  Expect barricades to go up TODAY!

Bike Month!

Happy Bike Month from the officers and board members of Yay Bikes!

This has been an exciting year for us. We have started new programing, like the Women’s Cycling Forum; expanded and improved our existing programing like the Bike to Work Challenge; moved into new office space at 82 E. 16th Avenue and continued representing you, our valued contributors, to state and local officials. We look forward to serving you this next year, hearing your input on cycling, policies and bike culture and expanding even further what we do.

Tomorrow we kick off Bike To Work Challenge 2010 in North Bank Park. Take a moment to check out the challenge site, sign up (and create a team if you have not already) and ride down at 7 AM to make this the best challenge yet. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Also check out Bike Month Events for a listing of all bike events this month. You can even add your own bike event. We will have 2 open houses, this week and next, at our office. It’s a great opportunity to see our space and talk bikes.

As you celebrate bike month, please consider how you can help Yay Bikes!. We welcome and encourage your contributions-be it the conversations started here, volunteer hours with us or our friends, ideas for programs you want to see or a small monetary contribution for the value you find in this site and our work. We look forward to listening and working hard for you in the coming year.
