We are finalizing plans for a Yoga and Cycling class.  We need at least 4-5 people to get started and have several days and times we are looking at. If you are interested, leave a response here and rank the days/times listed with 1 being best for you and 3 being worst.

    Possible days and times:
    Monday 7 PM
    Friday 7 PM
    Saturday 10:30 AM
Once we have enough people interested to form a class, we’ll finalize the dates. Classes will be held at 82 E. 16th Avenue (where the YB! office is housed) and cost $10/class.

What’s the difference between regular Yoga and “Yoga and Cycling?”

Savannah, Hi: I am excited to be coming to YaY Bikes to teach yoga for cyclists. Cycling, although a noble and wonderful passtime, it brings with it some issues related to the hips and lower back that can lead to serious pain and inflexibility if not balanced out. Specifically, cycylists tend to have short hamstrings and longer quads. This imbalance can cause torn hamstrings or blown out knees. Neither of these injuries is anything to sneeze at.

The idea of this kind of class is to help cyclists protect their bodies so they can enjoy their chosen sport while prevening injury.

Yoga is also a very good way to help focus. When I cycle, I like to get in the zone and yoga helps me do that.

Check out yoga in you on fb

Thanks for tuning in and I look forward to seeing you in a class or two!

I would love this — biking and skating have compounded my hamstring/hip issues. Best for me would be the Saturday, followed by the Monday, then the Friday.

Saturday would be best for me. Then I guess Monday.

    Diana,

I’m definitely interested but am not an avid cycler. I’m just looking for a general yoga class. Would this still be the class to attend or do you offer another that’s more fitting? I didn’t see any on your fb page.

    Thanks.

I’ve been looking for a yoga and cycling class for a while now. I’d love to join in – but Saturday is the only day that will work for me right now.

i’m game…i am also interested with the recent increase of violence against cyclists to put together a martial awareness course for cyclists. I have more than 10 years in the martial arts, back ground in Kali, Silat, Tomiki Aikido, Ike Jujitsu, Muay Thai and I’m also familiar with martial art stretches, some yoga, and some Chi Kung….I would be happy to share

Hi, Savannah, Molly, Shawn, Amy and Razz! Wow, I’m excited about the level of interest.

To answer the question about general yoga that Savannah asked, sure, it is ordinary yoga, ie not specifically just for cycling. But, it can’t hurt. It is my experience that most people have hip issues. I used to think it was mostly women who had them, but I am finding that some male yogis I know and have met have them too.

Yoga is good all round. Other parts of the body will be worked on too, such as shoulders, elbows, wrists, and specifically low back to get more power in the push and to decrease the risk of injury in that area. This will also help those of us with “tailbone” issues which, if you have them, you know can be extremly painful on the dismount! lol

Saturday really is the best day for me to start off with. Since there is enough interest to start the class we could start next Sat. 1/30 at 10:30 a.m. if you like.

Have any of you done yoga before? I would like to post a health questionnaire for you to fill out and a release.

As far as the schedule is concerned, the first session of classes should really run for 8-10 weeks to get the maximum benefit. If you wish we could take a break half way through, I’ll let you guys figure that out since I believe some of you are students.

Also, if you don’t mind, each week I will have a sign up sheet posted for class, since if there are not enough to run the class we will not hold it. However, if you sign up for the class and don’t come, then you will need to pay me for that class anyway.

I will also be posting information about equipment, and I can get this for you if you let me know what you want, but I will need to collect the money up front.

We will feel our way along, and I’m sure it will work out fine. I’m looking forward to meeting all of you and sharing some good energy together!

    Thanks!

I’m very excited about this!  I’ve done a bit of Yoga in the past, nothing major. I’m glad to see quite a bit of people interested as well!  This will give us another level to connect on.  And, it will get me out of the house…..  :)

This is great news! I’ve taken a couple yoga classes before, although its been several years. I would be up for starting next Saturday.

We’re working on checking out a start date based on when we can get space reserved.

Glad to see so much interest.

This sounds great, and Saturdays works well for me. My boyfriend will be coming, too; I took a brief class years ago, but he’s never done any yoga.
