Part of the problem is defining what is a bikeable route. Some consider High Street or Summit perfectly acceptable while others will veer off to take the trails. This was part of the problem with the paper maps published last year and will be a problem with any type of mapping. Hopefully an online version can provide [...]

Overall it seems like a good resource to have. I was playing around with some of my old commutes on it earlier. Very weird to be routed off Oak to a more “bike friendly” road.

First, glad to hear you are ok, all things considered. I take it she left? It’s a hit and run at that point if she did. File away and hope CPD actually investigates.

I’m still pretty convinced the only sure way of really changing things is to start young. Get the kids on bikes and start promoting cycling as real transportation-not toys, not recreation-and you will gradually see a shift in culture. Bring a kid up through their lives and into college using a bike as a large part [...]

Diana you can add your thoughts to this and anyone else:
I know the rec center I work at offers a “spinning and yoga” class that features yoga and indoor cycling on the stationary bikes. What would everyone say to doing a similar concept, only with an outdoor group ride to Diana’s studio? Diana, if you are [...]

I was doing the bike in the trunk/backseat for a while. My moment finally came when I got to the park to hit the trail and realized I left part of the wheel skewer in the driveway at home.
Found a carrier at the Walmart by us and have been pretty happy with it. Makes life much [...]

By the time you get the car rack (unless you need one here in Columbus), the carrier to ship/fly the bike home and the hassle of transporting it would it be cheaper to simply hit local co-ops or garage sales next time you are down there? Or find a bike local to take down? Might be [...]

If you are referring to the Bicentennial Bikeways Plan, there needs to be some serious discussion before that is considered anything close to a set in stone, master plan.
It’s a great start and a great vision but it is largely an anthology of the information necessary to go forward with bike improvements. We need to be [...]

I’ve stopped and talked with Casey the last few weeks. The store is looking great and he’s got some good plans going.
The space off of the main shop is a lot more open now and includes a dressing room. He’s also getting a fitting studio together and going through the certification to provide bike fitting.
They also [...]

I’ve heard the touring frames are pretty decent. I would love to do one up. At $75 and a little scrounging for parts, you could have a good bike for decent money.

Good idea for the seat.
I have those tires…they got buried on us. I’ll shoot an email soon about meeting up at Third Hand.

I just posted one of the announcements on our front page earlier this month.
One of the biggies is the start of the Hilltop Connecter, connecting the westiside into the Olentangy and Scioto Trails. It will also permit easier access to the Camp Chase Rail Trail (also breaking ground this year). I believe the Alum Creek is [...]

^ This is the method Sheldon recommended on his website. Would work well with the locking skewers I mentioned.
I got the chain for flexibility since I found areas where the method used above wouldn’t work and I was left with a compromise of locking the frame with the U-Lock to whatever was handy and using a [...]

Don’t know if anyone is in need of a newish bike for the coming season. Here are some decent offerings on CL I would jump on if I needed another bike. Or just didn’t have enough projects to keep me busy:
Raleigh M40 mountain bike $130
Mercier road bike $200
Raleigh Sportiff $100
Schwinn Varisty $30 [...]

From what I have seen, most of the thefts have been crimes of opportunity due to either poor locks or poor locking location
I’ve used some different options. Onguard U-Lock and cable on OSU campus and CSCC. I also have a $35 chain lock from Bikeregisty.com. It comes with an ABUS pad lock. Haven’t had much chance [...]

The Alum Creek Trail is typically pretty decent in the winter. Coming over 70 today, I noticed the trial was clear black top (and has been the last week) and from what I remember when I used to commute on it between Petzinger and Bryden, it was almost always clear within a day or two of [...]
