Just an FYI- I'm moving the site tonight (probably tonight). It will show up to you sometime between now and 3 days- that's just how the Internets work. No changes just yet... just a new host. It may run faster, but that's it. This is in preparation to the revamp which will be a whole site featuring everything cool in the world... but the forums will stay as you know and love them (so far as we've discussed). This means an enhanced site is on the horizon. I've been working on some really cool stuff for unrelated projects and much of the neatness will find its way into the new Yaybikes! site. Thanks for reading/posting and all of that. -mike (7)

BIKE THE C-BUS is a fun way to get fit and check out a few of the neighborhoods in and around Columbus. Experience segments of the King Lincoln District, Woodland Park, Downtown, Short North Arts District, Italian Village, University District, Harrison West, Victorian Village, Arena District, Franklinton, Brewery District and German Village. The entire ride will cover approximately 30 miles over 4 segments and will feature stops that highlight change that is occurring in our neighborhoods. Each stop will be sponsored by businesses and community groups and provide snacks, drinks and entertainment for the riders. The ride is configured to allow cyclists to complete segments if they do not feel comfortable riding the entire route. The ($25) registration fee includes an official 2009 “Long Street Tour” t-shirt and wristband along with drinks and food at designated rest stops, plus a free lunch at the hospitality tent. “Bike the C-Bus” is considered a ride and not a race and will offer a variety of course options to accommodate everyone from recreational riders to hard-core fitness enthusiasts. This year's non-profit beneficiaries are Lutheran Social Services, Ohio Sickle Cell and Health Association, and YMCA of Central Ohio. (3)

I can open the site up for you to log your ride. Sorry about the confusion around that. In retrospect, We could have left it open and just counted rides up until the 15th. Knowing how these things go, though, then there would have been people complaining that all of their rides weren't counted. We'll do better next year in communicating and having some defined methods and such. Much of this year was seat of the pants, up until 3am many, many nights and making on the dime decisions. In fact, my greatest defeat was a 40 hour weekend doing the maps... and then us choosing not to release it because google doesn't do bike trails... argh! - and the form was simple enough for regular use. The prototype for that is here if anyone is interested: http://b2ww.org/columbus/ui/public/challenge.php I appreciate the nice comments 2wheeler. The site was a lot of work... a ton of work. But the whole thing was a lot of work and the whole B2WW team deserves credit for the success. I think the technology was a facilitator for more active engagement, but without the hard work of the B2WW team in all kinds of areas (and even people not on the team in organizing and doing events) it wouldn't have been as successful as it was. We do want to turn the site back on and let ride logging continue. Moreover, I would like to make it so the tools can be refined and then branded and used by any municipality. The intent is to go national in 2010, but stay relevant and useful locally as well. Scaling is an issue with this plan. Some basic web stats from the just over 1 month of the challenge: ~17,500 unique visits ~164,000 unique pageviews ~24% Bounce Rate (which is phenomenal) - means 3/4ths of people who hit the site stayed and used it. - just about 0 downtime or problems (I know some folks had issues, but considering the use and scope, these were very few) Anyway, you can see that for this to support even 10 communities it would need to scale to serve over a million and a half pageviews and almost 200K unique visits in a month. That's not trivial, but I'm working on it right now (for this and another project). Fun stuff. It is my privilege, really, to have an intersection of skills and interests that I get to work on such cool projects. I'm happy to do it. We have a (mostly) good community and I'm thrilled to support it. (34)
